Exploitation of solid digestate pyrolysis products from biogas plants

The primary goal of PyroD is the exploitation of the digestate towards the synthesis of high-added value products such as biochar (BE) and activated carbon (EA).

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

Detailed information about the project

Anaerobic digeston

Anaerobic digestion is a widespread organic waste management process, both of agricultural (plant and/or animal) and urban origin. It is a process with a wide range of different substrates, satisfactory yields in biogas, and a low environmental footprint. However, despite the significant advantages, the process produces a significant amount of digested residue, consisting of the non-biodegradable part of the feed, while at the same time it is sensitive to fluctuations in organic loading and the presence of compounds toxic to methanogenic bacteria (which may pre-exist in the feed or formed during the process), thus affecting the yield and quality of the biogas produced.

TARGETING 3 APPLICATIONS

Reuse to the anaerobic digestion plant, to act as “stabilizers” of the process

Exploitation as filters to bind the generated H2S/p>

Commercial exploitation as soil conditioners or adsorbents respectively.

The management and coordination of the project is carried out by the QLAB analysis laboratory.
